How to use multi-factor authentication in Microsoft 365

How secure is your email account?

One of the biggest threats to organizations is unauthorized access to email accounts due to easy to guess passwords or by accidentally giving your password away to someone you thought was legitimate.

Once a hacker gets into your account, they can do malicious things like contact your boss, look up your banking information or contact your customers.

The good news is you can make your account more secure by turning on ‘multi-factor authentication’ (your email administrator can do this for you).

Once MFA is turned on, you’ll have the choice of using your smartphone, office phone or an authentication app. Most people will use the smartphone option which will have a code sent to their number as a text message.

Now when you log in to your email account, you’ll type your password and the code that was sent to your phone.

Even if someone got a hold of your password, they would also need your phone in order to access your account.
