The Copeland Newsletter: Summer Cybersecurity Edition

Hello!

A quick riddle for you: Why didn’t the hacker enjoy his summer vacation this year?

Trick question – hackers don’t take summer vacations.

It’s true.  While we’re at the beach, on a camping trip and taking long weekends, cybercriminals are working harder than ever to exploit vulnerabilities in critical personal and professional digital assets.

And for this reason, we are hoping you take a few minutes to explore these important cybersecurity recommendations.

Cybersecurity Checklist

We put together a no-fluff cybersecurity checklist that includes actions you can take today to better protect your critical digital assets.

This checklist will help you identify the steps you need to take to protect your business as thoroughly as possible

Cybersecurity Resources

We’ve written a few articles about protecting your company from cyber attacks:

  • One will tell you how to identify and close vulnerabilities in your network.

  • Another will tell you how to identify and handle email phishing attempts.

Windows 7 Support is Ending in 2019 and Will Affect Cybersecurity

Similar to Windows XP and Vista, Microsoft will be discontinuing service on certain versions of Windows 7.  You still have time, but it’s important to keep this in mind because making operating system changes can be time-consuming and take you away from running your business.

Here’s a resource from Microsoft that will give you more details.  Please email or call us if you’d like to have a direct conversation about this.

A Quick Question for You

Over the last few months, we’ve fielded some requests from our customers about conducting training sessions on various IT and security topics.

These succinct 1-2 hour personalized training sessions (on-site or remote) are meant to empower your staff with insight and information that will help your company leverage technology even better (Knowledge Is Power!).

We’ve had a handful of sessions on topics like:

Spotting Phishing emails
> Saving files to public drive vs. saving to a PC
> Understanding cloud and hybrid storage solutions
> Best practices in data backup solutions

And we want to hear from you: What topics are important and interesting to you?

What kinds of training and hands-on sessions would be valuable to you and your employees?

Kindly let us know – we would really appreciate your feedback.

A Privacy Tip for You

The disconcerting relationship between tech giants and our personal data doesn’t end with Facebook.  We have been sharing this helpful tip with our friends, families, and clients.

Check out this article on How to Disconnect Third-Party Apps From Your Gmail Account (so they can’t read your emails!)

In Other News…

We hosted an Open House at our new office last month and had a great time.  An evening of food and drink, IT talk and chatting about upcoming summer plans – what could be better?!

If you weren’t able to make it, feel free to schedule a meeting to come on by.

And of course, keep your eye out for our next open house.  We usually post about it on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Enjoy Your Summer!

Have a great summer.  Email us or call us if you’d like to talk about any cybersecurity or IT issues.

All the best,
